Mostar is much more than the Old Bridge. To truly understand the city, you need to discover how different civilizations, empires and recent history shaped the Mostar of today.

Starting at Checkpoint Mostar, just next to Spanish Square, this walking tour follows the city’s development through three defining eras: the Austro-Hungarian period, the Yugoslav era and the Ottoman Old Town.

Checkpoint Mostar – introduction to the city and today’s Mostar
Spanish Square – Austro-Hungarian architecture, the famous Gymnasium, the divided school system and modern-day Mostar
Partisan Memorial Cemetery – one of the most important memorials in the former Yugoslavia, designed by Bogdan Bogdanović, and the story of WWII and socialist Yugoslavia
Franciscan Church – religion, coexistence and the city’s changing skyline
Old Bridge – the history of the bridge, its destruction and reconstruction
Old Town – Ottoman architecture, bazaars, mosques, traditional crafts and everyday life in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Throughout the tour, you’ll hear stories about Ottoman rule, the Austro-Hungarian transformation of the city, Yugoslavia, the Bosnian War and how Mostar continues to rebuild and preserve its unique identity.

This is not just a sightseeing tour, it’s a walk through more than 500 years of history with a licensed local guide who was born and raised in Mostar.
